What does flattening a PDF do?
PDF documents can contain multiple "layers" of information, including interactive form fields, sticky notes, annotations, drop-down menus, and digital signatures. While these are useful for filling out digital paperwork, they can cause problems when you share the document.
When you "flatten" a PDF, you merge all of these separate, interactive layers into a single static image layer on the page. The information is still visible, but people can no longer click into the text boxes to alter the data. This is crucial for securing documents, ensuring formatting looks identical on all devices, and preparing legal documents for printing.
Why use Flatten PDF?
Total Data Privacy
Instead of uploading your sensitive, filled-out tax forms or NDAs to a random cloud server, our tool flattens your document locally using WebAssembly within your own internet browser.
Universal Compatibility
Some basic PDF viewers struggle to render interactive forms. A flattened PDF is guaranteed to look exactly the same on a Mac, PC, iPhone, or Android device.
