Frequently Asked Questions
What size should my test swatch be?
We recommend a 10cm x 10cm (or 4" x 4") square. It is large enough to give an accurate result but small enough not to waste fabric. Make sure to mark the grainline before washing!
What is an acceptable amount of shrinkage?
Anything under 2-3% is usually acceptable for loose garments. For fitted garments, even 2% can ruin the fit. Anything over 5% is considered "High Shrinkage" and requires pre-washing.
Why did it grow instead of shrink?
Some knits or loose weaves can stretch out when wet or heated. This tool will show a negative percentage (e.g., "-5%") to indicate the fabric has stretched.
